What We Do

Our editing services

Premium Tier

Developmental Editing

The deepest level of editing. We focus on the big-picture elements of your story: structure, pacing, character arcs, plot, tension, and setting utilization.

+

We work at the level of the story as a whole, not just a sentence-level edit.

Every developmental edit includes a full editorial assessment, a detailed written report identifying your manuscript's strengths and weaknesses with the specific changes to improve it. In-document comments are used for targeted notes that reference the assessment directly, plus bookmarks that make applying the changes even easier.

All Tiers

Copy Editing

The foundation of every well-written book is a strong copy-edit. We focus on clarity, consistency, and correctness at the sentence level. Put simply, we make sure your prose reads clearly and communicates your ideas.

+

In this pass we focus on proper grammar, punctuation, syntax, word choice, repetition, flow of the prose and more.

We take a surgeon's care over your work, retaining your style and voice, while cleaning up the prose. All copy edits include in-document comments explaining each edit. If we've stepped on anything, you can approve or deny every edit we provide. Your manuscript is still yours, now with a fresh coat of paint.

Standard Tier

Beta Reading

A professional reader's perspective on your manuscript before it goes further. We read your work the way your target audience would, then provide honest, structured feedback on what's landing and what isn't.

+

Our beta read goes beyond personal opinion. We evaluate engagement, pacing, character relatability, and genre expectations, giving you actionable insight from readers who understand fiction deeply.

All Tiers

Proofreading

The final pass before your manuscript is ready for submission or publication. We catch continuity slips, spelling errors, punctuation mistakes, formatting inconsistencies, and any remaining grammatical issues that slipped through earlier stages.

+

Proofreading assumes your manuscript has already been edited and isn't meant to stand on its own. If you're not sure which service is the right starting point, send us a message and our team will help guide you.

We edit fiction exclusively, across all genres and manuscript sizes, including incomplete drafts. Our team has a particular specialization in Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Questions

Pricing & process questions

How much does book editing cost? +

Pricing is fixed and charged per 1,000 words, agreed up front in a signed contract, with no hourly rates or surprise invoices. Basic is $11 per 1,000 words (or $8.80 for a first-time customer's Basic edit, 20% off), Standard is $18, and Premium is $25. Use the calculator on this page to estimate your total from your word count.

What is the difference between the Basic, Standard, and Premium tiers? +

Basic covers copy and line editing plus proofreading, with tracked changes and inline comments. Standard adds a professional beta-reading pass assessing strengths, weaknesses, and marketability. Premium adds a full developmental edit with an editorial assessment report. Each tier includes everything in the tier below it.

Which type of editing do I need? +

If your story's structure still needs work, such as plot, pacing, or character, that is developmental editing, our Premium tier. If the story is solid and you want the prose polished, that is copy and line editing, our Basic tier. If you are not sure, send a free sample and we will tell you honestly which level your manuscript needs.

How long does editing take? +

Your turnaround is quoted up front in the contract and scales with word count, from a few business days for a short manuscript to a few weeks for a full-length novel. The free sample edit comes back within two days.

Do you offer a free sample edit? +

Yes. Send up to 3,000 words and we return them edited, with tracked changes and margin comments, within two days, so you can judge the quality on your own manuscript before committing to anything.
